Desarae Kohrs, a senior at Park Rapids Area High School, has qualified for the Minnesota Speech Coaches Association 2021 All-State Speech Team.

In an April 23 press release, the MSCA announced 122 speech competitors representing 53 high schools who earned this honor.

To qualify, speakers must be a senior in high school, achieve excellence in competition including the subsection and section levels, appear at the state speech tournament and use their speech skills in at least three other activities, such as National Honor Society, drama or athletics. Community engagement is also one of the criteria.

Kohrs was a team co-captain and placed fifth at state in the storytelling category on Saturday, April 24.

Of the four members of the PRAHS varsity speech team who went to state, she was one of three who made it to the finals. In the poetry category, Emma Ravnaas took fourth place and Nadia Yliniemi placed fifth.
